Deep Space Vessel Class 2
The Deep Space Vessel Class 2 or DSV2 was a standard hull suited for everything from exploration to combat. Designed and produced by the
System and used as the backbone of their vast and powerful fleet. Not much is know about the
System other than their quest for expansion and their technology which is far in advance of anything currently in our fleet. This particular DSV2 was found abandoned and drifting on the outer rim by a Raptor on a deep space training mission. The ship was in perfect working order due to its automated repair system and the reason for the evacuation was unknown. It is suspected that the ship was very badly damaged and no longer able to support the crew when it was abandoned but was able to repair itself over the long years drifting in space. This particular vessel was either a science vessel or recon as it is not equipped with any armaments that we have been able to identify.
The nomenclature is different from our Warp or FTL values and its top velocity is Standard by 12 which is considerably faster than anything in the fleet.
Add-on HistoryThis ship was inspired by the
Liberator featured in the old British TV series
Blake's 7. There is little information available as to the specs on the TV version other then it was more advanced and more powerful than anything the
Federation had which makes it a great prize. Unfortunately for the Federation a motley band of terrorists and criminals got hold of it and used it to bring down the "Federation".
Due to the lack of information on the ship I had to make a lot of compromises and guesses but I hope I at least captured enough of the look of the
Liberator to make fans happy.
InstallationFirst:
I expect a certain level of Orbiter expertise when installing and using my add-ons. They are not and never have been for the new user and if you have never installed add-ons or are nervous about doing so then
DON'T. I nor anyone affiliated with the Rag Tag Fleet are responsible for you trashing your system because you didn't know what you were doing.
CompatibilityMy add-ons are my add-ons and I make no claim that they are compatible with anything other than the most current version of Orbiter. I do not try to nor will I try to make them compatible with your favorite add-on from another developer. It would be a nearly impossible task to make sure my add-ons worked with the 100s if not 1000s of other add-ons for Orbiter. Nor has any developer ever contacted me for specifics so as to make their add-on Rag Tag Fleet compatible so I have no intention of making mine compatible with theirs. If you have a problem with this then don't use my add-ons.
Special note If you are associated with Harvard University of MA in any way, be it a student or employee you DO NOT HAVE my permission to download and use my add-ons. You are also not welcome at the Rag Tag FleetInstallationAll of my add-ons have the folder structure intact so all you have to do is unzip and move the folders into your Orbiter installation folder. If you are asked to overwrite something then please answer yes.
Credit where credit is due.I wish to thank the following for their programs and inspiration.

Features.Cargo capabilityThe QJDSV2 can carry 36 UCGO cargo containers in the cargo hold next to the airlocks.
UMMU capabilityRoom for ten of the little guys. The cargo doors have to be open in order for the UMMU to leave or enter the ship. The UMMU can open or close the doors if within a few meters of them. They can also enter the ship on either side but only exit near Airlock 1, (left side)
Docking portsThere are two docking ports about mid-section on each side.
Standard Drive. The Standard Drive allows you to go long distances very quickly and is very similar to the Warp Drive found on "Star Trek" type ships.
What is the Standard drive and how does it work?
The Standard drive is a based on the interstellar drives used to travel the many light years between solar systems. The biggest difference is that the Standard Drive has been designed to work within a solar system and is incapable of traveling the great "emptiness" between the stars.
The drive works by moving the ship out of normal space and moving it a fixed distance through for lack of a better term "sub space". The shortest distance moved is 100km each cycle but because there are many cycles per second it appears that you are moving through space very fast. There is no control in subspace and you basically free travel in the direction you entered. By quickly jumping in and out of sub space you are able to maintain RCS and thruster control as if you were in normal space.
Drive Factors above 1 just multiply the default 100km value by a set amount.
VEL STD BY 1: 100km * 1
VEL STD BY 2: 100km * 3
VEL STD BY 3: 100km * 5
VEL STD BY 4: 100km * 10
VEL STD BY 5: 100km * 15
VEL STD BY 6: 100km * 20
VEL STD BY 7: 100km * 100
VEL STD BY 8: 100km * 250
VEL STD BY 9: 100km * 10000
VEL STD BY 10: 100km * 10000
VEL STD BY 11: 100km * 15000
VEL STD BY 12: 100km * 20000
Keyboard CommandsThere are very few because this ship was not designed for atmo nor does it have any shuttles.
Standard UMMU and UCGO commands are supported including action areas, use the Enter key and add UMMU or UCGO.
K Opens and closes the cargo doors. Both side open at the same time to aid in cargo handling.
Ctrl F11 Spools the
Standard Drive up or down.
Ctrl F12 Turns the
Standard Drive on or off if active.
Ctrl F8 Turns the
Standard Drive HUD and functionality on and off. This is needed because the drive keys conflict with the UMMU and UCGO keys.
F8 Shuts the cockpit graphics on and off.
3 & 4 Changes the value of the
Standard Drive
Have fun with the DSV2 and don't be afraid to comment.
